63rd Street Beach feels as much like a neighborhood gathering place as it does a place to swim. Spend time on the sand, feel waves crash against the seawall or explore the historic beach house with its arched walkways, open balconies and interactive fountains. Catch local musicians jamming all around the grounds. It's just the best.

Transit

No. 63 bus is the easiest option. During beach season, service extends directly to Hayes Drive and Lake Shore Drive near the beach house. At other times, buses end at 63rd Street and Stony Island Avenue, leaving an additional walk through Jackson Park.
Transfer to the eastbound No. 63 from the accessible 63rd Street Red Line station or the accessible Cottage Grove Green Line station. All CTA buses are wheelchair accessible.
Nos. 6, 15, 26, 28, 55, 59 and 67 buses also serve the surrounding Jackson Park area, but most require a longer walk to the beach.

Parking

A large paid parking lot is located beside the beach house at 6323 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive. The automated gate system records your license plate when you enter and includes a free 15-minute grace period for dropping off passengers or unloading supplies.
Current drive-up rates are $4.42 for up to one hour, $9.53 for up to four hours, $15.60 for up to nine hours and $23.74 for longer stays. Rates are subject to change.
The lot is open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and overnight parking is not permitted. It can fill on hot summer weekends and during events, so arriving earlier in the day is helpful.

♿ Accessibility

An accessible beach walk provides a firm route across the sand to the shoreline. The walkway does not cover the entire beach, but it allows wheelchair users, people using walkers and families with strollers to get close to the water without crossing deep sand.
A beach wheelchair is available free of charge with a valid photo ID. Check one out at the lifeguard office inside the beach house during staffed beach hours; availability may be limited.
Designated accessible parking spaces are available in the paid lot near the beach house. Paved paths connect the lot with the beach house and surrounding lakefront areas.
The beach house is listed as ADA compliant and has restrooms and showers on site. Most public areas around the beach house, courtyards and seawall are paved, although some surfaces may be uneven because of the building’s age.
