About

The Art Institute houses an enormous collection spanning cultures, continents and centuries, including instantly recognizable works like American Gothic, Nighthawks and A Sunday on La Grande Jatte. Beyond the famous paintings, you’ll find everything from ancient artifacts and decorative arts to photography and modern design. The museum is huge, so choose a few must-see galleries and save the rest for another visit.

Transit

Take the Brown, Green, Orange, Pink or Purple Line to Adams/Wabash, then walk one block east to Michigan Avenue.
Take the Red or Blue Line to Jackson, then walk two to three blocks east and approximately half a block north.
CTA buses 3, 4, 6, 7, J14, 147 and 151 stop near the museum.

Parking

Nearby underground parking is available at the Millennium Park, Grant Park North, Grant Park South and Millennium Lakeside garages.
The Millennium Park Garage, located across from the Modern Wing entrance, is generally the most convenient option.
Parking rates vary by date and duration. Reserving a space online in advance may provide a lower rate.
Street parking in the immediate area is limited.

♿ Accessibility

Both the Michigan Avenue and Modern Wing entrances are wheelchair accessible.
The Modern Wing entrance at 159 E. Monroe Street has a dedicated curbside drop-off area and is generally the easiest entrance for wheelchair users.
Elevators provide access to all public floors, and accessible restrooms are available.
Manual wheelchairs are available at the checkrooms free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.
Accessible parking is available in nearby Millennium Garages, although these spaces may not accommodate oversized vans.
